WHAT THEY ARE
Two eyebrow tattooing techniques that sit between fine hair strokes and soft powder shading.
WHO MAY CONSIDER THEM
Clients who want brows with texture and definition, or whose brows are sparse in some places and fuller in others.
HOW THE CHOICE IS MADE
We make it together at consultation, after mapping the brow to your face and looking at your skin.
NEXT STEP
Nano brows are built from very fine, hair-like strokes placed with a machine rather than a hand-held blade. The aim is a brow that reads as individual hairs, drawn to follow the direction your own brow hair grows.
Combination brows pair both ideas. Hair strokes usually sit at the front of the brow, where a softer, more natural start often suits the face, and gentle shading builds through the body and tail for added definition.
Neither one is a compromise. They give us more room to suit the brow to you, whether your brows are sparse at the front, patchy through the middle, or something you draw on every morning. Like every brow we design, the shape is mapped to your features first, and the technique comes second.
BROW STATIONS
04 Nano & Combination — you are here
Choosing between nano and combination brows isn’t something to settle from a photo online. At consultation, we work through it in four steps.
01 Your brows now
We look at your natural brow hair, where it’s sparse and any existing cosmetic tattoo pigment.
02 Mapping the shape
We measure and pre-draw the brow on your face, then adjust it with you until the shape feels like yours.
03 Choosing the technique
We weigh strokes, shading or a mix against your skin, your daily routine and the look you’d like.
04 Talking through healing
Before we begin, we go over what healing looks like and what aftercare will involve for you.
A brow isn’t one even block. We read it in three parts, and the mix of strokes and shading is planned for each part once the shape is mapped to your face.
01 The front
Where the brow starts near the nose. Fine hair strokes usually sit here, following the direction your own hairs grow, so the start stays soft rather than blocky.
02 The body
The middle of the brow up to the arch. On nano brows, strokes continue through here. On combination brows, strokes start to blend into light shading to fill sparse or patchy areas.
03 The tail
From the arch out to the end. On combination brows, gentle shading often builds here for definition. On nano brows, finer strokes carry the line through to the tail.
Results depend on your skin, existing pigmentation, healing, lifestyle and aftercare; pigment may fade and maintenance may be needed. Read Healing, Results and Aftercare.
Not sure if your brows suit strokes, shading or something in between? That’s what the consultation is for. Bring your questions, including the common ones about comfort, cost and healing, and we’ll map the options on your face before anything is decided.
