BROW GUIDE · 02 / 03 / 04 COMPARED
Most brow questions start the same way: should I go for hair-like strokes or a soft, shaded finish? Both are forms of eyebrow tattooing, and neither is better in every case. This guide sets the techniques side by side in general terms. It covers the look on the skin, how each is built, what affects healing and the maintenance to expect. The final choice is made together at consultation, based on your features and your skin.

A — SIDE BY SIDE
Read across each row. The descriptions are general. How a technique looks on you depends on your skin, any existing pigment, how you heal, your lifestyle and your aftercare.
OPTION A — MICROBLADING & FEATHERING
OPTION A Look on the skin
Fine, hair-like strokes drawn to follow the direction of your own brow hairs. It’s often chosen to add texture and fill sparse gaps while keeping a natural look.
OPTION A How it is built
Individual strokes are placed one at a time within the shape we’ve measured and mapped, so each one sits where a hair could naturally grow.
OPTION A Things that affect healing
Fine strokes depend heavily on skin characteristics. Some skin holds crisp strokes better than others, so we assess yours before recommending this route.
OPTION A Maintenance to expect
Strokes may soften and fade over time, and maintenance appointments may be needed. Read about 02 Microblading and Feathering Brows.
OPTION B — POWDER & OMBRE
OPTION B Look on the skin
A soft, shaded fill, similar to a brow filled in with powder or pencil. Ombre brows are lighter at the front and gradually deeper towards the tail.
OPTION B How it is built
Pigment is layered gradually to build up shading inside the mapped shape. The density is adjusted across the brow to create the soft or graduated finish.
OPTION B Things that affect healing
Your skin, any existing pigmentation, your healing and your aftercare all play a part. What you see straight after treatment is not the final result.
OPTION B Maintenance to expect
Shading may fade or change in tone over time, and maintenance appointments may be needed. Read about 03 Powder and Ombre Brows.
B — BETWEEN THE TWO
Nano brows also aim for a hair-stroke look, built with a different technique from microblading. Combination brows bring strokes and shading together. Strokes give texture where your brow is sparse, and soft shading adds depth through the body or tail. For many clients, the right answer isn’t a strict A or B. It’s a mix designed around their brow.
We’ll decide together at consultation. We look at your face, your existing hairs, your skin and how much definition you want day to day.

C — WHAT SHAPES YOUR RESULT
Your skin characteristics
Existing pigment or previous brow work
How your skin heals
Lifestyle, such as sun and skincare
Aftercare at home
That’s why we don’t pick a technique from a photo alone. We also explain early on that fresh brows rarely look like the healed result. Colour and definition settle as the skin recovers. Our guide to Healing, Results and Aftercare walks through this, and Common Questions covers discomfort, cost and longevity.
D — DECIDING TOGETHER
You don’t need to arrive knowing whether you want strokes or shading. At consultation in our Canberra studio, we measure and map your brows, talk through how each option is likely to suit your skin and agree on a design before anything begins. See From Consultation to Healed Result for the full process.
Results vary between clients. Pigment may fade or change over time, and maintenance appointments may be required. Cosmetic tattooing is not a medical treatment.
