TECHNIQUE SHEET · SHADING, NOT STROKES

POWDER BROWS,
SHADED TO YOUR FACE

If you fill your brows in with pencil or powder every morning, powder brows aim for a similar soft, filled look as cosmetic tattooing. The shape is mapped on your face first, then the colour is built up gradually. The result is designed around your features, not copied from a template.

A · THE TECHNIQUE

A SOFT FILL,
BUILT IN LAYERS

Powder brows are an eyebrow tattooing technique that uses fine shading rather than individual hair strokes. Pigment is placed in tiny dots and soft layers, which gives the brow a diffused, lightly made-up appearance. Ombre brows are a close relative: the shading is usually kept lighter towards the front of the brow and deeper towards the tail.

Because the effect comes from shading, the technique is often considered by clients who prefer a defined, filled brow, or who find that hair-stroke work isn’t the look they’re after. If you’d like to compare both approaches in detail, see Powder and Ombre Brows and Microblading and Feathering Brows, or read Strokes or Shading? Choosing a Brow Technique.

B · IS IT FOR YOU?

THREE THINGS WE LOOK AT

01  Your skin

Skin characteristics affect how shading settles and heals, so we assess your skin in person before recommending a technique.

02  Existing pigment

Previous brow tattooing can change what’s possible. Some clients need correction or removal first.

03  The look you want

Prefer a soft filled brow? Powder suits that. Want visible hair texture as well? Nano and combination brows may fit better.

C · THE PROCESS

MAP, SHADE,
HEAL, REVIEW

1  Consultation and mapping. We talk through your concerns and preferences, then measure and draw the shape on your face so you can see it before any pigment is placed.

2  Building the shade. Pigment is selected for your colouring and applied gradually, layer by layer.

3  Healing. Straight after treatment, brows often look darker and sharper than they will once healed. That first look is not the final result.

4  Review and maintenance. Pigment may fade or change over time, so maintenance appointments may be needed.

D · QUESTIONS

BEFORE YOU BOOK

How long do powder brows last?

It varies. Skin, healing, lifestyle and aftercare all play a part, and pigment fades over time. We’ll talk about what to expect for your skin at consultation.

Does it hurt?

People feel it differently. We explain what the treatment involves and check in with you throughout so you know what’s happening.

What does it cost?

It depends on your brows and whether existing tattooing needs attention first. We can give you a quote once we’ve looked at your brows.

Who does the work?

Our treatments are led by Olha Po, who has worked in cosmetic tattooing since 2016. More answers are on Common Questions.

Results depend on skin characteristics, existing pigmentation, healing, lifestyle and aftercare. Pigment may fade or change over time and maintenance appointments may be required. Cosmetic tattooing is not a medical treatment.

SEE THE SHAPE ON YOUR FACE FIRST

Powder brows should enhance your natural features, not change who you are. Come to our Canberra studio, open 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, seven days. We’ll map the shape with you and decide on the technique together. Before you come in, it’s worth reading Healing, Results and Aftercare.
